Mikey “Flyturtle”
Posted on August 28, 2017

My history with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles goes back to the original Mirage comic book. I loved it! Enough so that when the first cartoon premiered, I was instantly disappointed by it because it had been so heinously dumbed down for kids. (I was never a fan of the old cartoon as a result.) More versions have come and gone, some better than others. But my favorite to date is the current CGI-animated rendition on Nickelodeon. I look forward to every episode! And Mikey is hands-down my favorite. He never was before, but Greg Cipes performance cracks me up.

I have a handful of the Playmates figures from the current show, but I don’t fully pursue the line. Playmates stuff usually leaves me cold, primarily because they insist on making every character the same size, no matter how tall or short a character should be. That being said, I came across this figure of Mikey’s “Flyturtle” figure recently. I’d seen it before, but this time I was struck by the possibilities. The sculpt was there, but the colors were all wrong. I had to repaint! And I did.

That’s all there is to it! It’s just a cool repaint.
