Harley Quinn (Bombshell Circus Ringmaster)

Difficulty:

I’ve had the idea for a Circus Ringmaster Harley in my head for some time. It just seemed like a natural fit. I always figured I’d get around to her sooner or later. She was not a priority. Then a photo of an old Zatanna figure popped up in my feed and I realized she’d make a solid base. More importantly, I realized I had Z in fodder, ready to go!

The Zatanna in question is the Alex Ross design from the “Justice” line. The figure I had in fodder featured two arms broken off at the shoulder. There was no way to repair them, but replacement was an option. Initially I thought I could replace the arms and just run as a repaint with a new head, but the more I studied the project, the more I recognized there would be more to it than that.

In the end, the only Zatanna parts remaining are the torso, coat, and the hat. The pelvis is from a Bombshells Batwoman, and the legs from Bombshells Ivy. The head is a casting of Bombshells Wonder Woman, with sculpted hair. The pigtails came from the Amanda Conner “space” Harley figure. I used magnets in the head and hat so it’s removable but won’t fall off.

The arms ended up coming from an old Buffy figure. I had to find something that scaled properly and had double-jointed elbows so she could hold the megaphone up to her mouth. (That ruled out a surprising number of candidates.)  The shoulders themselves are from a female Marvel legends. I had to get creative to make the arms, the shoulders, and the torso work together. I sculpted around the mechanics to maintain the jacket look.

The megaphone was in fodder. I have no memory of where it came from.

Best show on Earth, indeed!
