Alfred Pennyworth (1989)

Difficulty:

Todd released a Michael Gough Alfred figure with his version of the ’95 Batmobile. And it’s fairly awful. He repainted a Joker suit, which is entirely incorrect for this Alfred. Mr. Gough never wore anything even remotely similar during the four films he appeared as Alfred. I could not let it stand. (I had to slap a coat on Todd’s version just to make it tolerable, which you can see here.)

Gough primarily wore variations on tuxedo tail suits and Edwardian morning suits. I’d love to build the latter someday, but that’s a more difficult task. As for the tail tux, the most obvious fodder sources are some Joker figures (too skinny) and a handful of Draculas, usually by NECA. The problem with the Vlad sculpts are the sculpted details that would have to be removed and covered up. Not impossible, but not fun to do either.

I finally settled on one of Super 7’s “the worst” characters. It’s the vampire bat dude. I found one loose on eBay. He was almost ideal, in that the suit didn’t need much altering. The hems of the pants legs, however, needed work. They were designed to accommodate his monster feet. So I had to extend the pants legs, and then fit some human-based footwear. I stole some gloved hands and the tie from fodder supplies.

For the head, I printed from a file created by FantabulousMiniatures. It’s a great likeness of Michael Gough at that age. Far superior to Todd’s. The glasses are cut metal from a Japanese set of scaled glasses.
